Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted at The Broke and The Bookish
Have you seen the covers of Beth Revis' Across the Universe series? (Don't get me started on the cover changes, because I'm trying my best to ignore those.) Of course I had to buy this book. Too bad I never actually got around to reading it, but I think I put it on my top 10 books I resolve to read in 2013, so um. I better get started!
Everyone has been raving about Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I almost bought this book SO many times. But I finally decided that I should get to this series already because it looks AWESOME. It will be bought soon.
I bought Christopher Paolini's Eragon about five years ago, and it has been sitting on my shelf since then. I actually quite enjoyed the movie of this one as well, even though most people who read the book weren't that pleased with it. I just... you guys, this book is BIG. The rest of the series is even BIGGER. I need to make time for it.
Basically, Amber made me buy Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. And I haven't read it yet. Which makes no sense, because hello, it sounds amazing and everyone's raving about it and oh my god I need to start this now. But yeah. I haven't.
I have been so terrible with reading fantasy lately. I used to be IN LOVE with fantasy, but I just haven't gotten around to it for a while. But thank goodness, a lot of the books on my spring TBR are fantasy, and Graceling by Kristin Cashore definitely deserves a place on that list. I mean, it looks so good.
Oh, why haven't I read this series yet? You know how you just have to buy some books? Okay, honestly I never really thought of reading Julie Kagawa's Iron King until I started book blogging and I kept seeing this EVERYWHERE. I bought it a while ago and I will get to this one soon. Ish.
So here's the deal: I really enjoyed Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments, but I stopped after the first three. I do own the other books in that series, but I haven't had the time or motivation to pick them up yet since I heard it sort of goes downhill after book 3. The Infernal Devices, on the other hand, have received such great reviews and I love the historical aspect of it and I heard it's better than TMI and... now I want to pick it up asap.

Ha, I'm cheating a little since this is next up on my TBR pile. I never planned on reading Cynthia Hand's Unearthly until a few weeks ago, when everyone started talking about it again and I just had to buy a pretty shiny copy of my own. Definitely excited for this series, plus I can read them all, which is always a good thing!
I also like to nominate The Kane Chronicles. Oh come on, you know me. I cheat on lists. And video games, and board games, and pretty much anything. I blame my mom. But yes, I want to read both of these series since, hello, it's RICK RIORDAN and Percy Jackson is one of my favorite series and I've always had a love for mythology and... *moves it up the list*
Don't hit me *hides*. Yes, I am one of those people who hasn't started this series yet, even though I adore the TV series. It's just... have you seen the SIZE of these books?! I barely made it through Lord of the Rings a few years back (not because I didn't love it, but because it was a lot). However, I won a copy from the lovely Gaby and Melissa and I'm DEFINITELY starting this one soon! I mean, if even Cassie loves it...
Honorable mentions: Wither, Legend and Uglies. I have the first book of all of them and need to freaking start those because I HAVE NO EXCUSE.
Tell me, which should be on top of my list? Have you read any of these?

I have Across the Universe on my list too!
ReplyDeleteI freakin' love The Heroes of Olympus series! It was just as good as the Percy Jackson series :)
The Infernal Devices is SO much better than The Mortal Instruments. The story line is so much more exciting :)
Hope you get to read them soon!
Oh great :) I heard that it's even better than TMI, so I'm excited! Thanks Samantha!
DeleteAhhh, I NEED to read Unearthly ASAP! And also A Song of Ice and Fire, and Daughter of Smoke and Bone and...
ReplyDeleteSO so many series and so little time! Great list, Judith!
I think that should be my motto: so many series, so little time. I hope you'll get to read and love them soon :D Thanks Dianna!!
DeleteI am just going to sit and cry at the beautifulness that is your blog.
ReplyDeleteAnd after looking at this list I realised there is so many I missed out from my own list and I am just going to sit and have a panic attack over the fact that there isn't enough time in a day to read all these books at once.
Also I've read the first two books in the Heroes of Olympus series and it is seriously just as good as Percy Jackson. I was a bit sceptical going into the series because of all the new characters but seriously they are flawless.
Anyway great list Judith!
I am just going to blush at your comment. THANK YOU!
DeleteYou know, I often feel like that when I realize how many books I want to read, and mostly read at the same time! It's a problem.
Oh, I'm glad! I am a little scared of the lack of Percy but I will definitely give it a try soon :)
I'm so disappointed by the lack of The Lotus War in this list. Bahaha, jk. I'm totally with you on Graceling, The Inheritance Cycle, The Iron Fey, and a Song of Ice and Fire. You neeeeed to get a move on on the Heroes of Olympus though, geez. I didn't like it as much as PJO... until The Mark of Athena happened. ALL OF THE FEELINGS.
ReplyDeleteAnd Lux. Duh.
Nice list :)
SORRY DEBBY :( I don't think I'm safe until I read Stormdancer so I WILL READ IT SOON. Ish. Teehee <3
DeleteI love Game of Thrones (the TV series), but I don't think I'll be reading the books. xD I need to read the Heroes of Olympics series, too. Loved Percy Jackson!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I was a little uncertain whether I should read the books, but so many people seem to love them... I will give the first one a try :)
DeleteI loved the Graceling series, nice list today. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
ReplyDeleteI really love this topic! It may be doing me harm because instead of focusing on series I want to start, I am discovering new series.
ReplyDeleteI also had Lux, Graceling, and The Iron Fey on my list. I didn't have the Heroes of Olympus but recently bought book one and really want to start that series.
Oh, me too! I have seen and added so many new series to my TBR today haha. Hope you'll enjoy Heroes of Olympus :)
DeleteWe have a lot of the same series on our lists. I want to start Game of Thrones, the Lux series and The Iron Fey series. Daughter of Smoke and Bone is soooo amazing. I didn't care too much for ATU and I tried the first Percy Jackson but it wasn't for me. Great list!
ReplyDeleteRochelle @ Books Like Stars
Too bad Percy Jackson wasn't for me. I absolutely adore that series! But I'm glad to see that Daughter of Smoke and Bone is amazing! Definitely added to my must-read-soon list :) Thank you!
DeleteOMG, you need to read so many of these! A lot of them are excellent! I really recommend Daughter of Smoke & Bone and Across the Universe, also.
ReplyDeleteI know I know! I'm always behind haha. Those will be read soon! :) Thanks Renae!
DeleteI love Percy Jackson! The Heroes of Olympus series is just as good!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that! :) Thanks Ellie!
DeleteI love your post, very pretty :) I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone and The Infernal Devices! I was a bit disappointed in Across the Universe but I have only read the first book in the series. I have the Lux series on my list too!
ReplyDeleteOur TTT
Ashley @ The Quiet Concert
Aw, thank you! :) And thanks for the recs! Those will be read soon!!
DeleteI totally have to read Lux and Across the Universe, too! Heard so many great things about them!
ReplyDeleteAnd oh my gosh, get your butt in gear and move Daughter of Smoke and Bone to the top of your list! With the Infernal Devices right underneath! And Graceling?! So good!!!
I felt the SAME way about The Iron Fey...um, faeries? Really? What's so great about that? And I was SO WRONG! I recently read and blogged about them with all my hesitation and I am so glad I read them, they are so freakin' good!
Love your list!! Get reading!
YES MA'AM! I'm getting to them soooon!
DeleteHa, exactly. First I was annoyed by the E (faeries/fairies) and all I could think about was Tinker Bell (don't hit me, faery fans!). But I've heard brilliant things and I'm going to check out your review! :)
I've read several of these and loved them. I definitely recommend Lux and Across the Universe!
ReplyDeleteSamantha @ Reading-AndCoffee
Thank you! :) Will definitely move them up my list.
DeletePlease read Obsidan ASAP!!!! It's one of my favorite books. I gotta read Across the Universe too. Thanks for stopping by today and giving suggestions. I'll def read Shadow and Bone soon.
ReplyDeleteI started Obsidian today and I can't put it down already! :D Ah yay, I hope you enjoy S&B! I thought it was wonderful.
DeleteMortal Instruments #4 is AWFUL. But #5? Totally worth reading #4 and suffering through it. I tried to think of 4-6 as being a new series she just decided not to rename. It helped some. And now I find that I cannot wait for #6 to come out.
ReplyDeleteAnd The Heros of Olympus? Blow Percy Jackson series out of the water (ha!). Seriously. I think Rick Riordan is really coming into stride with this series.
And there are so many on this list that I now need to add to my TBR shelf....
So glad to hear Lost Souls is worth sticking with the series!! That definitely motivated me to continue that series soon! (Or maybe I should just wait until Heavenly Fire is out? Haha.)
DeleteAlso, THAT is good to hear. Percy is still very close to my heart (adore it!) but it's great to hear that Riordan still brings it with this series :)
Thanks so much!
I was a little intimidated by the size of A Game of Thrones when I first started the series, especially since the print was quite small, but once I got reading, I could not stop. I love Unearthly, and The Infernal Devices is just amazing. In fact, I'm about to reread Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince so I'm all set for Clockwork Princess.
ReplyDeleteYay, thanks Lee! You definitely motivated me to pick up Game of Thrones soon haha. The size is intimidating indeed, but I will read it soon! :)
DeleteWe have several series in common. I think I'm going to make Graceling a priority this year. I've heard so many good things about it that I'm pretty sure I'm going to love it,
ReplyDeleteGlad to have found you via TTT!
Aw thanks! Yes! I've seen it on many lists today so I consider that a good thing :)
DeleteRead Graceling!! One of my favorite series. The second book is my favorite. You don't have to read them all at once because they're not chronological. But they are so good!
ReplyDeleteThe non-chronological order kind of confused me, but I'm excited for it still :) Thanks for the rec!
DeleteHurry up and read Obsidian, woman! I AM WAITING!
ReplyDelete[im]http://static2.fjcdn.com/comments/I+m+on+it+_e7d1a056ed30ff9ec82d79e7af13dd17.jpg[/im]
DeleteAll amazing picks! I've read half of these or at least started them. And the rest are on my TBR pile as well. You're gonna love ASoIaF and AtU :)
ReplyDeleteYay I hope I will :D Thanks Ula!
DeleteI need to start most of these series too, The Infernal Devices is really good, I like it even more than The Mortal Instruments. I've read the first book in the Lux series, and now I'm hooked on it. It really is as awesome as everyone says it is. Great list!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that! :) I started Obsidian today and I am definitely hooked. Excited to continue!
DeleteOur list is almost the same! A few only made my honorable mention list, but they're on there.
ReplyDeleteMy Teaser and Top Ten Tuesday (#2)
LisaILJ @ I’ll Tumble for YA
The Across The Universe series is epic. I hope you get to read it soon. I have Infernal Devices and The Iron Fey series on my list too.
ReplyDeleteYou need to read Graceling!!! I've yet to read Bitterblue, but Graceling and Fire are both so great :)
ReplyDeleteI will :D Thanks Chloe!
DeleteI'm with you with The Infernal Devices & The Heroes of Olympics Judith!
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely try The Daughter of Smoke & Bone, the writing is just so unique! :D
Ah, glad to hear that! I like books with a unique writing style :)
DeleteAck! You must read Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Across the Universe, they're amazing!!! Well I also loved Graceling and Unearthly even though I haven't read Boundless yet. I'm just afraid I of inishing series. But READ THEM!!! =D
ReplyDeleteHahaha, ALL OF THEM! All added to my omg-I-must-read-this-soon list :D thanks!
DeleteGreat choices!!! I really need to start Unearthly too. And Across the Universe. AND Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Sigh. I'll always be behind LOL!
ReplyDeleteReally great picks - hope you get to them! :)
I am always behind too hahaha. It's a problem sometimes ;)
DeleteI definitely need to read some of these too. I have read Graceling and The Iron Fey and loved both of those so I can't wait for you to read them too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alise! I hope I will soon :)
DeleteAs someone who has read Across the Universe, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Lux, Graceling, The Iron Fey, Infernal Devices AND Unearthly.. I definitely agree that you must read these! lol. I highly recommend Daughter of Smoke and Bone, the writing is AMAZING. Lux has good a majorly swoonworthy romance. And The Iron Fey is one of my all-time favorite series. So many choices.. hope you get to them soon!
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks for making this choice so much easier! :P But I am definitely excited to start those, and I am glad that you loved them!
DeleteThe Across the Universe series was awesome! I totally loved it. I also read the first book in the Lux series and I loved that one too. Great picks! :)
ReplyDeleteCheck out my TTT, I have a few of the same books: http://www.tumblingbooks.com/2013/03/05/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-series-id-like-to-start-but-havent-yet/
Oh great, I'll check those out soon :)
DeleteI can't help but laugh when I think of the Inheritance books- my mother bought the first one so many years ago and then it sat in the bookshelf for years and then got put into storage, never being read. I was meaning to try it, but never managed to... maybe I ought to try and find it, though that'll take a few months!
ReplyDeleteHa, I've been meaning to read it for so long! Still plan to do it soon. Ish.
DeleteFor me I need to start the Graceling series as well as The Infernal devices! already started daughter of smoke and bone (didn't enjoy) obsidian (loved!) Across the universe (didn't like all that much) and Unearthly! (enjoyed)
ReplyDelete- Juhina @ Maji Bookshelf
Oh, you're the first person I have heard of who didn't like Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Interesting! And I did read Unearthly and Obsidian this week and enjoyed both of them :)
DeleteHey, we're starting the Song of Ice & Fire read along this month, so feel free to hop on! its a no pressure one book every TWO month deal! Otherwise.. i'd get freaked out and run...................to the sunset, to drown my anxiety in my Canon ;)
ReplyDeleteI knowwwww! I think I'll join, but hey, I said that about UTNS too (STILL TRYING!). I hope you're running to that sunset anyway because your pics are gorgeous :D
DeleteHoly crap, so many of those are AMAZING! Graceling realm, Across the Universe, DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE!
ReplyDeleteI will get to them SOON!
DeleteI really need to start Across the Universe too. I've heard such great things, and now that all the books are out I have no excuse! As for the Graceling books, I totally recommend them! I enjoyed them a lot :)
ReplyDeleteI have no excuse for any of these haha. Thanks!
DeleteAcross the Universe, Unearthly and Lux are on my list too! So glad I'm not the only one who hasn't caught up on those yet :D I keep seeing Graceling Realm on other people's list and realising I should have put that :P I've been meaning to read those for ages!
ReplyDeleteI <3 The Infernal Devices so I hope you get to read those soon. I just love seeing all the crossover between the characters and how it feels familiar yet different, with it being set in a different place and time :) and I really liked Daughter of Smoke and Bone! I'm waiting on Days of Blood and Starlight from the library at the moment.
I read Eragon last year and really didn't get on with it, but I haven't seen the film so maybe that might have helped. Great list!
Here's my Top Ten
Have a great week!
Oh, thank you so much! That definitely makes TID sound more interesting, and I'm very excited to pick it up soon! :) Too bad you didn't enjoy Eragon all that much. I have no idea if I will, but I've had it for so long + DRAGONS! Thanks Sarah :D
DeleteThe song of ice and fire is also high on my list, but indeed, they are HUGE. Graceling made it to my list this week. I hope to read Daughter of smoke and bone this month for the read-a-thon. I have the first two books from the Infernal devices, it's going to be fun to compare our thoughts! :D
ReplyDeleteMel@thedailyprophecy.
Ah, we need to compare thoughts again! Let's hope you'll enjoy these more than the third TMI book haha. :)
DeleteI will be one of those people who wholeheartedly endorses The Inheritance Cycle! It's such a good series, solidly done and with an awesome story. I cried when I read the last book, and I kind of want to read it again from the beginning just thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Heroes of Olympus/Kane Chronicles - you need to read this. Rick Riordan is a GENIUS. That is all I need to say about that, especially if you liked Percy Jackson.
The Graceling Realm is a good series, and one that I need to reread and finish out (since I haven't read Bitterblue yet). Perhaps when spring starts (officially).
Join in on our (casual) A Song of Ice and Fire Read-along! We're reading 1 book x 2 months, so it's really chill. We started this week, so there's definitely time for you to join us!
I am so glad to hear that! I haven't actually heard much about it other than a lot of people seem to have read it. But it sounds really good :)
DeleteI know I know! I love Rick Riordan and yes, I dare saying that after I've only read Percy so far. Definitely excited to start more of his books because MYTHOLOGY <3
I'm still thinking about joining (a little late haha). It would be fun to read with you guys so I think I'll just have to try! Thanks Alexa! :)
I've read 8 of the 10 you have listed. And I think you need to get onto ALL of these series – even the ones like Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Lux, which I haven't yet read.
ReplyDeleteWHY IS SIZE ALWAYS A DETERRENCE?? I love big books and I cannot lie! I really do. A longer to be immersed in the story and characters. Of course, it downs the books I can get to in the same time but they're worth it. If you're into the story in The Inheritance Cycle then I say go for it. I read Eldest, Brisingr and Inheritance like taking three shots one after the other. And Song of Ice and Fire I LOVE!
Seriously, girl! Chop chop! (Really on Across the Universe and Heroes of Olympus and The Iron fey and Graceling and and and and and and.... <3)
I KNOW I KNOW! I'm always the one who starts the first book when the rest of the world finishes the series. But I will get to these soon!
DeleteI actually LOVE big books, but they also take a lot of time away from review (and other) books, and I need to find more time to read already! But I AM starting A Game of Thrones somewhere this month :)
Okay, there are a LOT of amazing series on this list. So much potential!
ReplyDeleteBut can I implore you to start ASoIaF, The Iron Fey, and The Graceling series immediately?!
Teehee, I will definitely start them soon! Thanks :)
DeleteI am in LOVE with the graphics you made for this post! Seriously, very pretty - great job!!
ReplyDeleteI can totally vouch for Across the Universe, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and Infernal Devices because they are among my FAVE series ever! And as for the rest of them - umm, yeah I really need to get to them, as well. STAT. The problem is, there are just way too many good series out there that I still need to read and so little time (okay, well, this might not be a problem, per se... It's actually a good thing!)! I would've had a hard time narrowing down my list to 10. You've reminded me that I desperately need to read the Percy Jackson series - I mean, I am amazed that I haven't got around to that one yet because I am positive I would be in love with it.
Aw thanks so much <3
DeleteI know, too many great series out there! It kind of makes me nervous sometimes lol. But those are definitely added to my omg-must-read-this-soon list. And YES to Percy Jackson! It's one of my favorite series :)
OMG this list is almost uncanny, every single one of these series I am pretty much dying to get into! Except one: Daughter of Smoke & Bone which, which I have read & absolutely loved. I hope you will too!! And yeah, the rest are all books that are high-priority 'to read soon' books...awesome list :)
ReplyDeleteps- I love the banners ♥
Thank you!! Oh I'm definitely excited for that book! Everyone has been raving about it, so I moved it up my TBR :)
DeleteSo I've read the Heroes of Olympus (except for the latest one) and The Inheritance Cycle (except for the last book and a half), but I need to read the rest also. Why are there always so many series I need to read? Some of them are great because they're finished, but others, not so much (I'm mostly looking at A Song of Ice and Fire right now. People are actually scared he'll die before finishing AND THEN WHAT?). Anyway, let's just read all the series together, mmk?
ReplyDeleteYes please! That needs to happen! And there are just too many books and series and it drives me a little crazy sometimes. Okay, who am I kidding? Most times. Ooooh I have just started A Game of Thrones and I'm liking it, but I can see how that might be a problem ;)
DeleteDaughter of Smoke and Bone!!! START THESE NOWWWWW!
ReplyDeleteAlso, stop being the best at blog graphics. I'm so jealous.
