Introducing: Epic Recs

epic recssgif

A lot of the conversations I have with Amber are about recommending books (or in Amber’s case: TV shows) to each other. Basically, they end with us forcing the other to read a book (or watch a show). The other day I was trying to make Amber read The Selection (I will still do this eventually), we came up with an idea. A few texts later we had decided to force recommend books to each other, take one each month and read them. Like an impromptu book club, consisting of just the two of us. Or a game of truth or dare without the truth. It’s awesome.

And the best part? No matter how high our TBRs or how busy our lives, we have to read the recommended book. Our friendship depends on these books. (I just made myself very nervous.) It’s a matter of life and death. (Okay, not really, but it sounds cool.) Each month, I will read Books from Amber and Amber will read Books from Judith. We are very good at coming up with brilliant names, as you can see. We even came up with themes, because we are so fun. This month’s theme is light and dark (kind of) and this resulted in the following recommendations…

Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2) Arclight (Arclight, #1)

I am making Amber read Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo, because it’s a brilliant book and because Sturmhond asdfjdsa. It’s a good thing to mention that I also made Amber read Shadow and Bone way back when (like a month ago), and that she loved it. Obviously, my recommendations are fabulous. Amber is making me read Arclight by Josin L. McQuein, because it has a weird ship or something. I don’t think she’ll still like me if I don’t ship the ship. Uh oh.

What is the goal? To see if our rec(ommendation)s are really as epic as we both say they are. Which, of course, they are. So. What do you think of our crazy scheming? Have you read any of these books and did you love Sturmhond them as much as we did?

STORMHUND WAS THE BEST PART OF SIEGE AND STORM. *ahem* The plot was great as well. I approve 900% with your rec.

Arclight I haven’t read, but I hear good things. One day I might read it… Looking forward to see what you think of it.

  2. This sounds like fun. Good luck to you two. =)

  3. This is a great idea! I had this idea once to have a book swap, but instead of just swapping and being done, the people had to actually read the book they received from the other and then review it or whatever. I have books recommended to me and I’m always like, “yeah, I’ll read that” but never do. (Because I’m a jerk like that) I love this idea though. You should consider opening it up to your readers or making it a link-up. Would be a cool, I think.

This is such a cool idea! I love it when people love books that I’ve recommended, and it’s always such a great feeling to fall in love with a book that I might not have picked up on my own.

  5. I love this idea! I should find someone to do it with me. I haven’t read either of these books but I’m making note of the fact that you guys labeled them as “epic”. :)
