Picture This: Book Revels

I love books. I love photography. And I love getting to know new people. That’s why I decided to combine these three things in this little feature called Picture This, where I ask other bloggers to share five pictures with us, bookish and non-bookish. But mostly bookish. This time, we’re admiring snap shots taken by

Picture 1: Inspiration
I love book-related crafts and this one was a doozy…I made the Shatter Me shoes. Two tubes of industrial glue, dozens of broken mirrors, and sixteen hours later and here they are! I wore them to Tahereh Mafi’s signing when the Dark Days tour came to my area and she (and others!) loved them! I tend to get obsessive when I like something and I loved Ignite Me so much that I just had to make the shoes. Speaking of obsessions…

Picture 2: My One True Obsession
Harry Potter is my LIFE. I love that I can say that I grew up with Harry Potter, because it’s true! I’ve been there from the beginning, waiting in line at midnight for my books, going to midnight premieres for the movies, drinking butterbeer at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I remember in elementary school I would check the books out of the library even though I had my own copies at home. I literally couldn’t wait until the end of the day to start rereading them. I know for a fact that no other book or series will ever affect me like this one.

Picture 3: Quotable
I’ve always loved book quotes, and I’ve written them down in various places, but finally I decided to get a journal and keep them all together. I can’t wait to fill it up!

Picture 4: Fantasy
Fantasy is my jam. It’s been a lifelong favorite genre and I don’t see that changing any time soon. I can never properly explain why I love it so much, though. Maybe it’s the incredible, awe-inspiring worlds, worlds so unlike our own that you can’t help but want to give anything just to spend a day there. Maybe it’s the characters, people who make you FEEL, people who stay with you years after you’ve turned that last page. Maybe it’s the stakes, which tend to be so high that they seem unbearable. I guess it was just love at first read.

Picture 5: Brodo Swaggins
I’ve started a nice collection of bookish swag from various signings and conferences! I love the pretty bookmarks, which have come in handy since I tend to be the kind of person who uses spare playing cards or old receipts as bookmarks. I’m dying to do something creative with the pins I’ve collected.

Love these photos by Ellie! I think this is a wonderful way to get to know you (Ellie) more, as a blogger and as a person. I love the idea of having a journal for book quotes–I may have to start something like this myself. I have a little reading journal but haven’t filled it up with too many quotes…The photo of Crown of Midnight with the wood background is lovely, and I appreciate your sharing how much you love fantasy!

This is SOOOO cool! Great concept Judith–spotlighting bookish things and bloggers! I’ve become recently obsessed with taking photos…capturing the artsy moments especially with my books as well :) Ellie’s Shatter Me shoes are the best! When she told me she was going to do that I was pumped for her–the craftiness in me was all ‘Do it!!’ This is a great idea and I hope you spotlight more bloggers if you need people count me in!

Is Ellie my long-lost twin? I have a huge folder of all my favorite book quotes (and quotes from authors/movies/plays/etc) that I’ve been collecting since elementary school.

& YES to the HP love! I can’t imagine another series ever coming along that will effect me as much as Harry Potter did. The midnight releases – for both the books AND movies, travelling halfway across the country for HP conventions (and getting to play a muggle version of Quidditch! My team actually made the newspapers!), meeting some of my best friends through HP websites and forums… nope, no other series will ever come close.

  4. I love Ellie’s photos!! She did a fab job. I love to hear that someone else checked out books that they owned just because they couldn’t wait til the end of the day to start rereading them!! I was so like that too. Matilda is one I definitely did that with. The quote journal idea is really cute too!! Love it.

Ellie is too cool :( It’s true. If she had shared a pic of her perfect bangs, I would have fainted. THE SHOES. THE QUOTES. THE HANDWRITING. <3

  6. THE SHOES. THE SHOES. That is the one thing going through my mind right now. I’ve yet to read Shatter Me, but still… THE SHOES. Also, I love your quotes journal- I’ve started keeping one too now and I absolutely love it- I have all my favourite quotes in one place :)

Ellie, I am OBSESSED with the Shatter Me shoes you made! I’m sorely tempted to try that craft for myself BUT I don’t think I’d be able to do it without injuring myself. Also, I am SO in agreement with your Harry Potter and fantasy love – two of the things I adore most in the world too!
