Policies

Hi. If you are here, I assume you want one of us to read your book in exchange for a review. We feel very honored, and would appreciate it even more if you would read our policies before emailing us. :)

our reviews

Paper Riot is mostly a young adult book blog, but we also read new adult, adult and middle grade books we are interested in. Our reviews consist of our honest thoughts and a few quotes we found particularly memorable. If you would like to submit your book for review, please read our personal preferences below before sending us an email, including information about your book. We will then decide if it’s fitting for the blog and whether we would be interested in doing a review on it. By accepting or receiving your book, we aim to read and review it as quickly as possible, and usually post our reviews within a month before or two weeks after its release date. Please be aware that it’s possible that we won’t enjoy your book and make that clear in our review. We will always try to write a completely honest (though respectful) review. Please keep in mind that our opinion is subjective, and that we are in no way professionals. We are just two English lit students and a librarian who love books. A lot.

Judith reads: almost any YA genre, with a preference for (high) fantasy and contemporary YA. She occasionally reads MG, NA and women’s fiction, but is very selective about these works. She does not read indie/self-published works, horror, short stories, non-fiction, graphic novels and picture books. If you want Judith to review your book, send her a request at judith@paperiot.com.

Ellice reads: almost any YA/NA genre, with a preference for contemporary, romance, historical fiction and women’s fiction. She does not read indie/self-published works, horror, non-fiction, MG fiction, graphic novels/manga and most science fiction. Please include trigger warnings for: cancer, animal abuse/death, sexual/physical/emotional/psychological abuse, (attempted) rape/assault. If you want Ellice to review your book, send her a request at ellice@paperiot.com.

our blog tours and promotional posts

We occasionally work with authors, publisher or other bloggers to promote books we really liked and loved through blog tours. We do, however, want to be honest to our readers, and therefore won’t join every blog tour we can. If we are part of a blog tour, it is because we really enjoyed that particular book and would love nothing more than to make other people read it. We love to work with others to celebrate books, but we think being honest about our opinions is more important than promoting books we felt just okay about.

our rating

Judith would like to clarify that, unlike most people seem to think, 3 and 3.5 star ratings are a very good thing. It means we definitely enjoyed the book, even though it might not have been life-changing.

Awful. Avoid at all costs.
Bad. Better stay away.
Forgettable. Not recommended.
Okay. Maybe recommended.
Enjoyable. Likely recommended.
Good. Recommended.
Great. Highly recommended.
Amazing. Must read.
Perfect. Life-changing.

our giveaways

We host giveaways when we want to promote a book we loved, are part of a blog tour, or celebrate our birthdays. All giveaways are open internationally unless stated otherwise (which means you’re welcome to join as long as The Book Depository ships to your country) and all giveaways will be hosted using Rafflecopter (which means the winners will be random and we are not able to influence this). Unless we are part of a blog tour organized by the publisher, all of the books we give away are purchased with our own money, but we are not responsible for items lost or damaged during shipping. If this happens, however, we will try our best to get TBD to replace the book. All personal information will be deleted once the giveaway is over, and will not be shared with others.
